Met Gala 2026 - May 4

On a fine spring day in NYC the 2026 version of The Met Gala Fundraiser brought forth the best show of creativity for the entire year.

I'm sure many costumes cost $100K. Add that to the cost of a ticket and no wonder they raised millions for the Costune Institute. Works out fine for everyone.

Long and large dress trains seemed to everywhere. Where else can you wear long and copious yards and yards of fabric, certainly places without the room for the assistants to tend a train... I thought some of them were very inventive.

After watching over 3 hours of uncut Red Carpet, I was most impressed by the number of quality creative people roaming around. Occasionally, even the men displayed creativity.

Each costume, beyond just looking good, engendered its own drama. And it went on like this for the 3+ hours I watched uncut coverage. After a while I turned the useless and noisy sound.

Go on to YouTube and look up the Met Gala 2026 and find the uncut hours of the Red Carpet.

Having such creative people using SOAR channels is a major goal of SittingOnARainbow.com

Fabric Shows in NYC January 2026

January seems to be a favorite month for fabric and other apparel exhibitions in New York City.

  • General impression:
    • Nothing new. Booth after booth displayed the same boring fabrics and designs from too many years ago.
    • If you poked around you could find interesting people with years of experience. I will be adding these people to my mailing lists.
    • Perhaps the best manufacturers don't come to these old-fashioned shows.
    • I talked to the women at the shows and the time has come for not only clothes fitting properly but, additionally, a time for better fashion is now.

Winter '26 NY Gift Show

One of the older shows, the Gift Show, now known as the NOW show, took place at Javits's Center in NYC. I remember the show back 10 years and the difference is what the internet communications hath wrought: the in-person shows are a thing of the past. Personally, I like the old shows better. You could see the entire industry in one place, Now, only the mediocre/living-in-the-past companies. Yes, some companies are eternal and will exist with or without the internet.

Soar is Sitting on a Rainbow

Sitting on a rainbow is too long to keep typing and reading SOAR is much easier.

I'm not sure I took the URL way back when, yet I always liked it. It should do well for the romance of custom apparel.

So if you see SOAR you will know it's short for Sitting On A Rainbow.

Understanding the Post-Trump World: We need to be ready to take advantage of a rare opportunity.

American Century Importing: The gateway to tomorrow's automation

The shift from Adam Smith manufacturing to tomorrow's manufacturing

Although Adam Smith is generally correct, the time of the most efficient country supplying other countries is over: modern manufacturing can produce very efficient products in many places. I do not expect you to read "The Wealth of Nations", a very long, complicated but correct book.

What's the difference of the past to our modern future? What are the potential opportunities?

In the Adam Smith era just finishing, a producer would sell to an exporter who then sold to an importer/distributor and then to the final customer (who may return the product).

In today's world of international communications, one owner from any one position on the supply chain, could control and ensure high quality and good design without having to compromise. ACImporting.com provides tools to manage the supply chain which also manages your sales and profits.

Modern apparel, as well as many other manufactured products, custom or off-the-rack, needs today's and tomorrow's innovations.

Do you think your products will do better being directly under your control?

For American Century Importing, everything we help you currently accomplish provides preparation for the post-Trump era where our style of manufacturing will produce new products at very reasonable, if not inexpensive, products for mass consumption. I believe it will take three years of custom apparel production to provide a structure for mass production of apparel, but that is a particular project (SittingOnARainbow). And from my redesign (not only just me, of course) for automated production things will never be the same. In fact, they will be much better. Women's clothing, for one important thing, being more attractive couldn't hurt anything.

Trump is providing a trade crisis while trying to equalize trade imbalances. Whereas his methods may or may not succeed, American Century Importing chooses not to wait or depend on government actions or non-actions.

I have been working on how industry can return to American shores for 20 years. I have been waiting for the opportunity provided by the crisis created by Trump. In fact, Manufacturing Villages, my project, will accomplish Trump's goals creating a winning situation for everyone.

As well as anyone, American Century Importing knows what is going on and what the issues needing addressing.
